Paolo Biagio Cipolla attended the Degree Course in Classical Antiquity at the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy of the University of Catania, from the academic year 1990/91 to the academic year 1994/95, graduating with a vote of 110/110, praise and printing dignity. The thesis, entitled Three minor satirographs of the fifth century: Pratina, Aristia, Ione (text, translation and commentary), was discussed on March 20, 1996, supervisor Prof. Giuseppina Basta Donzelli, co-tutors Profs. Carmelo Crimi and Giacomo Manganaro.
He was awarded one of the two specialization grants of the "R. Toscano Scuderi " put into competition for the 1994/95 academic year, carrying out the improvement in Greek Literature from 1 July 1997 to 30 September 1997 and completing it successfully.
in 1997 he won the competition for the award of three Ph.D. scholarships in Greek and Latin Philology (XII Cycle) at the same University. He attended the aforementioned Ph.D. course, from the academic year 1997/98 to the academic year 1999/2000, under the guidance of the Tutor Prof. Giuseppina Basta Donzelli.
He obtained the title of Ph.D. on February 22, 2001, at the University of Catania, discussing a thesis entitled Minor poets of the Satyr Drama. Critical Text, Translation, and Commentary. It constitutes the continuation and extension of the research already carried out in the degree thesis.
He has passed the written and oral tests of the Competition in Chair for teaching in middle and secondary school, classes A043 - A050 - A051 - A052. and was entered into the role starting from the a. s. 2001/2002 in class A052 (Letters, Latin, and Greek in the Liceo Classico). He taught at the "M. Cutelli "of Catania (scholastic year 2001/2002 and from 1/9/2008 to 2/28/2009) and" M. Rapisardi "of Paternò (2004/2005, 2006/2007, 2007/2008).
In 2002 he won with a score of 95/100 the competition for the assignment of a two-year research grant in the scientific-disciplinary sector L-FIL-LET / 02 (GREEK LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE), for the research project: "History of the tradition of theatrical texts ", and carried out this research activity from 2/9/2002 to 31/8/2004. In 2004, he won, with a score of 95/100, the competition for the assignment of a research grant of annual duration in the same scientific-disciplinary sector, for the research project: “Theater and its diffusion. History of the tradition of theatrical texts in the late ancient age ", and he carried out this research activity from 1/9/2005 to 31/8/2006.
He attended, in the academic year 2002/2003, the annual course of Paleography and Greek Codicology at the Vatican School of Paleography, Diplomatics and Archives, passing the final exam on 22/10/03 with a score of 30/30 and praise.
In 2009 he became a Researcher of Greek Language and Literature at the University of Catania, winning the competition announced with D.R. n. 2881 of 20/3/2008, published on the G.U.R.I.- IV special series, n. 25 of 28/3/2008. In 2012 he was confirmed in the role.
In 2013 he obtained the national scientific qualification as a 2nd level professor for the scientific-disciplinary sector of Greek language and literature (L-FIL-LET / 02).
In 2015 he became Associate Professor of Greek Language and Literature at the University of Catania, winning the competition announced with D.R. n. 585 of 2/3/2015, published on the G.U.R.I.- IV special series, n. 18 of 6/3/2015.
In 2018 he obtained the national scientific qualification as a 1st level professor for the s.s.d. of Greek Language and Literature (L-FIL-LET / 02) and Classical and Late Ancient Philology (L-FIl-LET / 05).
