Attilio Scuderi was born in Catania, where he currently resides, on April 21, 1970. He graduated from the Mario Cutelli Classical High School and earned a degree in Literature, majoring in Classics, from the University of Rome La Sapienza on December 13, 1995; his supervisor was Biancamaria Frabotta.
He completed his PhD in English and Anglo-American Studies and Comparative Literature at the University of Catania in 2000. He has been a Research Fellow since 2002, then Associate Professor since 2014, and has been a Full Professor of Comparative Literary Theory and Literary Studies since 2023.

He was the principal investigator and coordinator of the interuniversity research project (FIR 2014) entitled "Libertines, Libertines, and Freedom: Between Modern and Contemporary." The project, which also benefits from the external collaboration of Professor Massimo Fusillo, investigates the cultural model of the libertine between modern and contemporary times, with a particular focus on the origins of this fundamental and complex cultural category, as well as its literary declination and the cultural and philosophical debate on seduction, transgression, and deviation from ideological, religious, and social norms.
He collaborates with various research centers and is a member of their scientific committees, including: ARS - Archivio della Ragion di Stato (Archive of Reason of State) at UNINA; ICONE - European Research Center for the Theory and History of Images, at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan; and Ossidiana: Observatory for the Study of Cultural Processes and Everyday Life, at UNICAL.
He is a member of the scientific committees of various specialized editorial series; Among these:
Member of the Scientific Committee of the Literary Theory and Comparative Literature series "L'anima e le forme" (The Soul and the Forms) published by Del Vecchio since its inception in January 2020.

He is currently working on a monograph on Melville and the figure of the bourgeois; he focuses on the relationship between literature and neuroscience, with particular reference to the themes of deception, self-deception, and consciousness (as represented in literary texts and in the history of culture).
