Simona BUSNI

Associate Professor of Cinema, photography and television [PEMM-01/B]

Simona Busni is Associated Professor at the University of Catania. She taught History of cinema at University of Salento and Contemporary Image at University of Calabria, where she gained her PhD and was a Postdoctoral Researcher (2013-2015, 2019-2021). She furthered her research work in France as Visiting PhD Student (Université Sorbonne Paris 1) and Visiting Postdoctoral Researcher (Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3). She is author of many essays for journals such as «ComunicazioniSociali» and «Bianco e Nero». She was editor of Lessico del cinema italiano. Forme di rappresentazione e forme di vita (Mimesis, 2014-2016) and she is currently editor of «L’avventura. International Journal of Italian Film and Media Landscapes» (il Mulino), «Fata Morgana» (Pellegrini) and «Fata Morgana Web». She wrote three books: La voce delle donne. Le sconosciute del melodramma, da Galatea a Lucia Bosè (Edizioni Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo, 2018), Michelangelo Antonioni. L’alienista scettico (Edizioni Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo, 2019), which got the Limina Award 2020 for Best Italian Film Studies Book, Tre regine per una corona. The crown e la nuova era del royal biopic (Edizioni Estemporanee - Infinito Edizioni, 2024). She is Associate PI of the research project "CAOS - Catastrophes of Southern Italy. Photogénie and Remediation of Natural Disasters" (PRIN 2022 PNRR). With Angela Maiello, she is editor of the book "Beyond Catastrophes. Visions and Perspectives on Post-anthropocenic Italy" (Mimesis International, 2025).   .
