Expected Learning Outcomes (according
to Dublin Descriptors)
1) Knowledge and understanding: knowing the principles
of theoretical syntax and some basic concepts of compositional semantics.
2) Applying knowledge and understanding: being
able to autonomously analyze a non-literary prose text in Italian (also with
reference to contact with other codes) by identifying and classifying its
syntactic constituents and by describing processes of syntactic derivation;
being able to describe and assess orthographic systems (also
dialect/non-standardized ones), with reference to text digitalization and
automatic text processing.
3)Making judgements: being able to defend one’s
own judgements, and to compare and discuss two or more competing analyses.
4) Communication skills: being able to explain and
support the various stages of the analysis and its findings in a structured and
clear way, making use of an appropriate register and style.
5) Learning skills: Starting from the knowledge,
understanding, and competence developed in the module, being able to continue
the graduate programme in a largely self-directed and autonomous way
Word,
compound word, word classes, collocation, multiword expression, phrase,
discontinuous constituent; sentence, embedded clause, marked word order, text,
cohesion strategies. The correlation between punctuation and syntactic
relations will also be addressed.
Each
theoretical topic will be the subject of exercises, which will also take into
account some of the most common applications in constituency parsing
