Expected Learning Outcomes

The course aims to provide basic knowledge of museum heritage education useful for developing valid heritage education projects (indispensable tools for transmitting knowledge of the museum heritage). According to the Dublin descriptors, the goal is to propose paths that allow students - at the end of the course - to develop reflections on the relationship between cultural heritage and the construction of civic identity and to make compatible the knowledge acquired in the field of communication, mediation and heritage education with professional skills in the museum sector.

Detailed Course Content

Methodological and technical tools useful for guiding every form of activity in museums: from the planning project to the study of collections for didactic purposes.

  History of collecting and of the museum institution in Europe and America.

Cultural mediation according to the different types of public, elements of museum communication.

  Digital tools in museum heritage education and written language in museums.

School and museum heritage education.

Knowledge of the events concerning the birth, development, set-up and plan of the educational services of the two museums chosen and visited by the student will be the subject of examination.

In addition to consulting the material on the Studium portal and studying the texts in the program, all students (attending and non-attending students) are RECOMMENDED to consult the website of ICOM Italia, the Education for Cultural Heritage working group. All students are RECOMMENDED to study with the aid of a historical atlas (chosen by the student) - which can also be used during the exam - especially the part relating to the history of collecting.
