Marta Anna BERTUNA

Marta Bertuna has cultivated a passion for the performing arts and critical writing since an early age. In 2019, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Florence, acquiring a solid foundation in social and legal studies. In September 2021, she attended the Venice Film Festival as a correspondent for the academic journal Arabeschi. In 2022, she completed her Master's degree in Communication of Culture and Performing Arts with a thesis entitled The Female Body as an Instrument of Struggle. Since January 2023, she has been contributing to UnictMagazine, the official magazine of the University of Catania. She is currently a PhD candidate in Sciences for Cultural Heritage and Cultural Production, pursuing a research project entitled Towards a History of Festivals as Good Practices in the Safeguarding and Enhancement of Intangible Cultural Heritage. On 3 and 4 October 2023, she attended, as an auditor, the conference La Scena (in) Centrifuga. Dal decentramento al riequilibrio territoriale: storie, geografie, pratiche e politiche culturali in Piemonte, organized by the Piemonte dal Vivo Foundation in Turin. On 13 November 2023, she attended, as an auditor, the study day Critica teatrale, esperienze culturali e università: la formazione alla spettatorialità e l’incontro con la scena contemporanea, held at the University of Parma. On 14 November 2024, she attended, as an auditor, the study day Patrimonio culturale e sostenibilità: giornata di studio sui festival culturali, organized by the TrovaFestival association at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan. From 23 March 2024 to 24 May 2024, she attended a B1-level French language course, including a final examination, organized by the University Language Centre (Centro Linguistico di Ateneo), for a total of 40 hours. In May 2024, she published the article FIC Festival: Languages in Dialogue and the Search for Meaning through the Body in Arabeschi, based on the field research and participant observation she conducted on the festival as a case study. From October 2024 to July 2025, she carried out a doctoral research stay at Paris 8 University. From 28 October 2024 to 15 January 2025, she attended a C1-level English language course, including a final examination, for a total of 40 hours, organized by the University Language Centre (Centro Linguistico d’Ateneo, CLA). In February 2025, she participated as an observer in the Festival de Théâtre Universitaire – Paris 8, and in May 2025, she participated in the #Meraki – Festival International de Théâtre Universitaire – Université Lyon 3 in the same role. Since 2025, she has been involved in Work Package 3 of the EUNICE (European University for Customized Education) project, a collaborative network of European universities.In November 2025, she presented a paper at the doctoral conference CHAIN – Landscapes and Ecology of Culture Between Humanity and Nature, entitled Redevelopment of the Former Noto Station Warehouses: Codex Festival in Dialogue Between Performance and Territory. The conference proceedings, including her contribution under the title The Former Noto Station Warehouses: Between Fragmentation and Symbolic Reconfiguration, are currently forthcoming. From February to July 2026, she is undertaking a six-month doctoral internship at the cultural association CapoTrave/Kilowatt Festival in Sansepolcro (Arezzo, Italy), where she serves as Assistant to the Communications Office. At the end of this experience, an article entitled Kilowatt Festival: Geographies of Contemporary Performance in a Tuscan Village (provisional title), relating to the event itself, is scheduled to be published in the Zoom section of the journal Arabeschi. The event will take place from 15 to 17 July 2026.
