Sicily is an ideal place to experiment the nexus between culture and economic development, through the recognition, istitutionalization and strategic planning of Cultural Routes. Analising material and immaterial cultural heritage, meant as an instrument for enhancing and regenerating the socioeconomic status of local territory, implies promoting cultural heritage as a new resource for increasing regional welfare and economic activity. Cultural Routes are not static clusters of cultural goods, but cultural mechanisms able of activating territorial competitiveness, common welfare and long-lasting economic development.
