Expected Learning Outcomes

According to the Dublin descriptors, at the end of my course, students

1) will acquire a general knowledge of the concepts and methods of the discipline;

2) on the basis of this knowledge, will be able to understand and discuss linguistic hypotheses starting from the observation of texts and examples;

3) will be able to retrieve linguistic information using the most recent tools of Italian and foreign lexicography, research engines, digital archives.

Through laboratory activities, students will:

  • analyze the main features of speech using experimental phonetics applications;
  • identify the part of speech to which each word in a text belongs, arguing their choice.

Detailed Course Content

Fundamentals of linguistics: Levels of linguistic analysis (phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics).

Idiomaticity, vocabulary and dictionaries: Linguistic research and multimedia technologies: lexicon, usage dictionaries; characteristics of the main Italian and foreign monolingual dictionaries.
