CONTRASTIVE ANALYSIS OF CULTURAL AND COMMUNICATION INDUSTRIES

Expected Learning Outcomes

The course introduces the disciplines that deal with the economy of companies of various types (manufacturing, family businesses, public administrations) and with different degrees of specialization (manufacturing, commercial, services, etc.) in the aspects of management, organization, survey and relationship with the consumer. The course presents the concepts and analysis tools of a general nature, highlighting the specificities, from the management point of view and the conditions of economic sustainability, of cultural institutions and enterprises. More specifically, the course aims to: - transmit the basic concepts and language of business-economic analysis; - provide a unified vision of the structure and functioning of companies, regardless of their type (private, public, non-profit) and the sector to which they belong. - Develop the ability to observe company phenomena with a unitary approach, but knowing how to recognize the specific elements of different types of companies. - Understand the relationships between company and customers and between company and competitors. - Highlight the role of the manager as a figure of synthesis and integration of logics and expectations that are also very different from each other, in the name of the continuity of the company and its sustainability. Highlight the specific functioning and managerial challenges typical of cultural organizations.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

At the end of the course student will be able to...

Acquire relevant knowledge on governance and strategy of cultural organizations. More specifically, students will be able to:

  • Recognize and distinguish different models of cultural organizations in terms of key stakeholders privileged and conditions for their economic viability.

  • Identify the specific facets of culture addressed by different types of cultural organizations.

  • Describe and evaluate governance structures and mechanisms for different types of cultural organizations.

  • Define the key resources mobilised by cultural organizations to grant economic viability and long term sustainability.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

At the end of the course, the student will be able to ...

Use the basic concepts and language of management and evaluate the environment and economy of companies in all their aspects, as well as apply basic accounting methods to construct and interpret the financial statements.

Participation in the classroom is requested by the teacher and is encouraged.

To test the level of understanding achieved, the tests verify the students' ability to recognize and classify different types of companies and their specificities, identify the items that make up a balance sheet, their relationships with the system of events, different definitions of business success and the conditions that determine them.

To evaluate the ability to apply the concepts presented in the classroom, the tests measure the ability to acquire a specific vocabulary by asking to precisely define related concepts; they ask students to evaluate the economic conditions of a company by examining the relationship between volumes and costs of results, to interpret the state of health of a company starting from the construction of a balance sheet from the interpretation of its degree of liquidity solidity profitability.

Attendance of Lessons

Participatory lectures, with the support of slides and the discussion of short case studies.

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

The evaluation is based on the results of the intermediate tests or the general oral exam. The grade of the oral test corresponds to the arithmetic mean of the scores reported in the single questions, expressed in thirtieths.

Oral exam
For the evaluation of the exam, the mastery of the contents and the skills acquired, the linguistic accuracy and lexical properties, as well as the argumentative ability demonstrated by the candidate will be taken into account.
The verification of learning can also be carried out electronically, should the conditions require it
