Expected Learning Outcomes
Upon
successful completion of the course, the students will achieve language proficiency comparable to the
C1+ level. The students’ ability to understand and
critically analyze texts in academic and political fields will be enhanced through
guided readings and analyses.
The students will be able to critically explore texts in an independent
way according to the models acquired, to identify salient textual data and to
organize them in individual works fully motivating their choices.
The students will apply the acquired skills to write essays and to
present and describe complex topics in a clear and articulated way, developing
specific points and concluding everything appropriately, in line with
international academic standards.

Lessons, seminars, students' presentations.
Required Prerequisites
Language skills corresponding to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference.
Attendance of Lessons
Attendance is not compulsory, but is recommended. Students will also attend the course an expert linguistic collaborator (CEL).
Detailed Course Content
The course is divided into two modules:
MODULE 1: Language
in Use and Oral Presentation Skills (3 CFU)
Analysis of authentic materials from the academic
field (extracts from conferences, abstracts, essays)
MODULE 2: Language, Politics,
Power (6 CFU)
Critical
discourse analysis (theory and practice). Ideology, metaphors, appraisal
theory. Language, politics and contemporary socio-cultural challenges.
