To achieve oral and written skills in French at C1 Plus level (Framework). According to the Dublin descriptors, students, at the end of the course, will demonstrate:
1) Knowledge and understanding (principles of audiovisual translation; mechanisms of neologism formation)
2) Applying knowledge and understanding (researching French neologisms in specialised online resources; applying taxonomies in lexicography)
3) Making judgements (expressing a personal opinion on a topical issue; developing a mature translation awareness of French literary or topical texts)
4) Communication skills (arguing, selecting examples from a corpus; understanding an authentic audiovisual document; summarising orally and in writing; synthesising the main ideas of an argumentative text; produce sociolinguistically appropriate utterances)
5) Learning skills (developing personal strategies for self-learning)
Fluency in receptive and productive language skills (written and oral) corresponding to Framework level B2+). Essentials of translation theories and discourse analysis, stylistics and rhetoric.
Attendance is highly recommended.

Single written test (audiovisual comprehension and reformulation of the content of a topical sequence; summary of a literary (LM37) and topical (LM38) subject; translation from Italian (literary text for LM37 and journalistic text for LM38)
Oral test (oral exposé on a topical subject; discussion of the contents of module B and module C)
The in itinere tests (optional and also open to non-attending students) will cover a part of the written test (the summary and/or translation) and a part of module B. The respective marks will feed into the final assessment.
The assessment of the examination will take into account the candidate's mastery of the content and skills acquired, linguistic accuracy and lexical property, as well as his or her argumentative ability.
