Expected Learning Outcomes

According to the Dublin descriptors, students, at the end of the course, will be expected to:

1. define and identify the central topics of ethics of communication;

2. analyze, describe and explain some central issues of ethics of communication and their developments;

3. apply the acquired contents to interpret case studies and similar issues, also in close fields;

4. communicate and present a consistent explanation of the phenomena that have been illustrated through the texts of the course

Course Structure

Frontal lectures and analysis of audio-video-photographic material and cases study.

Detailed Course Content

Module A. Levels of ethical analysis, deontology, the role images play in the contemporary society, ethical paradigms of reciprocity, the effects of overexposure to media, the recovery of a balanced communication, ontology of words and silence;

Module B. Meaning and evolution of images, the role of imagination and the impact of technology, automation, and telematics on the understanding of the self and the world;

Module C. Advertising ethics: from commercial to advocacy communication, from the communication strategies in advertising to past and current national and international policies and laws;.
