Expected Learning Outcomes
According to the Dublin descriptors, students, at the
end of the course, will demonstrate:
1. knowledge and understanding of the
main cultural themes of the contemporany and globalized world, such as, for example, the
fundamental role
of human work in the creation of different places, landscapes, cultural values
and political orders present in the world;
2. the ability to recognize and
describe the individual elements and the interrelationships between the
elements of a landscape at various geographical scales;
3. the ability to apply the method of
analogies and differences to Italian, European and Extraeuropean landscapes,
identifyng the significant phisical elements, historical, artistic,
architectural and anvironmental
emergencies;
4. the ability to develop independent judgment on the
knowledge acquired and to make a decision in a responsible and conscious way;
5. the ability to use the knowledge acquired to document,
report and effectively communicate particular aspects of landscapes related to
the issues of decay, conservation and enhancement.
Course Structure
Frontal lectures, in which will be used power point
prepared by the lecturer and
field investigations concerning the issues addressed.

Module A (4 ECTS) Prof.ssa Arena
Cultural organization of terrestrial spaces –
agricoltural landscape – nature, art and architecture in landscape – wine, food
and identity – traditions, uses and customs – migrations – the concept of
place.
Module B (2 ECTS) Prof.ssa Sorbello
Origins and evolution of cultural geography with its three Schools
(German, French, Berkeley) – the crisis of Cultural Geography and its rebirth
in the 80s – the New Cultural Geography: the spatial and cultural
turning point of the discipline.
