Expected Learning Outcomes
A) Knowledge and understanding: demonstrate knowledge
and understanding in a post-secondary level field of study, including some
cutting-edge topics in their field of study, with the support of advanced
textbooks;
B) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: being
able to apply their knowledge and understanding skills in a manner
demonstrate a professional approach to their work, and
possess adequate skills both to devise and argue arguments and to solve
problems in their field of study;
C) Making judgments: collecting and interpreting data
useful for making independent judgments, including reflection on related
social, scientific or ethical issues;
D) Communication skills: communicating information,
ideas, problems and solutions to specialist and non-specialist interlocutors
specialists;
E) Learning skills: develop the skills necessary to
undertake further studies with a high degree of autonomy.
Fostering
the skills of spatial analysis so that students gain an understanding of the
importance of scale and can evaluate and interpret the significance of spatial
variation. At the end of the course, students will have acquired an awareness
of the importance of man's work and thought in the creation of different
places, landscapes, cultures, values and political assets in the world.
Course Structure
The teaching of the discipline will be carried out through face-to-face
lessons, field trips and screening of films related to the topics addressed.

Detailed Course Content
From the general geographical knowledge we proceed
with the study of some Sicilian territorial realities (Etna and municipalities
of the Etna Regional Park, Plain of Catania) for the take-off of a local
development focused on eco-friendly and cultural tourism.
General geography: population, migration, economic
activity, economy and environment, urbanization, sustainable development,
globalization and relocation.
The
Sicilian landscapes, the geostory of Sicily.
