Expected Learning Outcomes

According to the Dublin descriptors, the course aims to develop:

  • knowledge and understanding of the main cultural and economic themes of the contemporany and  globalized world, such as, for example, the fundamental role of human work in the creation of different landscapes,  the wealth of cultural values, economic activities and political orders present in the world;

  • the ability to recognize and analyze  the topics studied using various  tools, such as  photographic images, satellite images and graphics;
  • the ability to apply the method of analogies and differences   at various  geographical scales;
  • the ability  to develop independent judgment on the knowledge acquired and to make a decisions in a responsible and conscious way;
  • the ability to use the knowledge acquired to document, report and effectively communicate particular aspects of landscapes related to the issues of decay, conservation and enhancement;
  • the ability to put at the service of the community the knowledge and values acquired by concretizing the territorial education and the “public geography”.

Course Structure

The course will take place through traditional classroom lectures, in which will be used  power point prepared by the lecturer.


If the teaching is given in a mixed or remote mode, the necessary changes with respect to what was previously stated may be introduced, in order to comply with the program envisaged and reported in the syllabus.

Required Prerequisites

The student must be able to locate places and phenomena on an atlas and must possess basic notions of geography relating to the environmental and anthropic context.

 

Detailed Course Content

Theories, concepts and tools of human geography;  relationships between the environment, society and places ; themes and problems on globalization;  themes and problems on cities and urban spaces;  migratory movements; population; pyramids of the age; economic sectors: agriculture, industry, tertiary; sustenible development;  territorial education; landscapes and cultural heritages; Global migratory mobility with a focus on the Mediterranean basin.
