Giovanna Santaera is a Research Fellow in L-ART/ 06 - Cinema, photography and television since March 2024 with funds from the PRIN 2023 project "CAOS - Catastrophes of Southern Italy. Photogénie and remediation of natural disasters " within the project "Fotogenia del fuoco: vulcaneos e earthquakes nell'immaginario audiovisivo - Photogènie of Fire: vulcaneos and earthquakes in the audiovisual imagery" of the Unit of the University of Catania (Scientific responsible: Simona Busni).
In the previous year she held the same position for the PRIN 2020 "Fototesti. Rhetorics, poetics and cognitive aspects " of the unit of the University of Catania (Scientific responsible: Maria Rizzarelli). Her research activity was aimed at the creation of a digital platform dedicated to Italian photo-textual production.
She obtained her PhD in Science for Cultural Heritage and Production at the University of Catania in December 2022 with a thesis entitled Cinema transmitted: media, museums and visual culture. Since 2018, she has been an editorial member of the study journal 'Arabeschi' on literature and visual culture. Her main research and professional interests are related to audiovisual narratives and their heritages, intermediality and digital media at the intersection with social and cultural issues.
