Claudio TERNULLO

Adjunct Professor

I have earned two PhDs in Philosophy (Pisa, 2005, Supervisor: Prof E Moriconi, and Liverpool, 2012. Supervisor: Prof M. Leng) specialising in the philosophy and foundations of mathematics.

After my Liverpool PhD, I have worked as post-doc at the Kurt Gödel Research Center for Mathematical Logic of the University of Vienna, at the University of Tartu and, in the last four years, as Beatriu de Pinós (MSCA COFUND) Fellow at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Barcelona.

As well as being Fixed-Term Lecturer at the University of Catania, I am Project Director at the University of Cluj-Napoca where I’m working on the project: “Self-Similarity, Large Cardinals and the Universe of Sets” funded by a Romanian PNRR-Marie Curie-Seal of Excellence grant.

In 2022, I obtained the Italian Abilitazione Scientifica di II fascia (Associate Professor) in the following scientific area: M-FIL/02 (Logica e Filosofia della Scienza).

My research areas are: logic, philosophy of mathematics (especially philosophy of set theory), the foundations of mathematics, philosophy of science, and ancient philosophy.

In particular, I have researched the following topics: mathematical platonism, the set-theoretic multiverse (mathematical pluralism), new axioms and their justification, abstraction principles (and neo-logicism), alternative conceptions of the infinite, topics in the history of logic, fallacies.

Since September 2023, I have served as Secretary of the Italian Society for Logic and Philosophy of Science (https://silfs.it).
