Expected Learning Outcomes

Understanding of the theoretical foundations of geography.

Understanding of the main territorial problems of the globalized world.

At the end of the course, students will have acquired knowledge of the most important Human Geography topics and an adequate ability to express critical opinions on contemporary society.

According to the Dublin descriptors, students, at the end of the course, will demonstrate:

1) knowledge and understanding in a post-secondary level field of study and knowing the fundamental themes in one's field of study;

2) ability to apply knowledge and understanding in order to demonstrate a professional approach and possess adequate skills both to conceive and support arguments and to solve problems in one's field of study

5) learning skills necessary to undertake subsequent studies with a high degree of autonomy.

Course Structure

The course will take place through traditional classroom lectures, in which will be used power point prepared by the lecturer.

Detailed Course Content

1.         Theories, concepts and tools of human geography; relationships between the environment, society and places; themes and problems on globalization; themes and problems on cities and urban spaces;  migratory movements;  economic sectors: agriculture, industry, tertiary; sustainable development;  territorial education; landscapes and cultural heritages.

2.         The globalized food system; rural development policies; global food security; environmental and social impacts of the dominant food system; food access inequalities at the global scale; food access policies; food culture as a factor of globalization; food culture and identity.

3.         Agenda 2030 and sustainable development; the role of Italy in the fight against poverty.
