German for Students of Classical Studies (scadenza 30.10.2014)

Dear Graduate Students,

I want to make you aware of the new program of German for Classicists that will be offered by the University of Cologne for the first time next summer. Faculty from Cologne have approached us about sending students to their inaugural session, and last year our faculty approved this program for those who wish to improve their German.

The flyer for the program is attached.

Please note that the course is not for beginners, but for those who have had the equivalent of two years of high school German. This should equate with one year of college-level German.

The classes are free of charge, but Cologne does not pay travel expenses or room and board. Our faculty have approved this program (but not any other language-instruction program) for payment of expenses up to a certain amount by the department. Outside study which involves tuition and/or travel and living expenses may be covered only once during your years as a graduate student. Normally course work that can be taken at UC is not accepted into this category. However, the Cologne program has been approved.

If you are interested in applying for next summer, please speak in the near future to Holt Parker about whether this program is appropriate for you at this point in your graduate career. I would also be happy to discuss it with you. The deadline for the submission of the application is October 30, 2014.

Best wishes for the coming year.
