Elisa FRANCESCONI

Assistant Professor of History of contemporary art [ARTE-01/C]

Elisa Francesconi is a researcher in contemporary art history at the University of Catania (RTDB).

After graduating in Art History at the Roma Tre University (2005), she specialized at the School of Specialization in Historical and Artistic Heritage at the University of Udine (2009). She obtained her PhD in History and Conservation of Art and Architecture at Roma Tre University (2012); at the same university, she was a research fellow on the project Photographic Archives and Contemporary Art (2015-2020) and took part in the PRIN led by the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa entitled Modern Art Exhibitions in Private Galleries in Italy: The Two Crucial Decades (1960-1980). She was a post-doctoral fellow at Les Archives de la critique d'art/Université Rennes 2 (2013-2014).

Since 2021, she has been co-founder and vice-president of the Mario Carbone and Elisa Magri Archive (Rome) and collaborates with the historic cultural association La Salerniana, which promotes contemporary art in Sicily.

Art and criticism from the post-World War II to the 1960s, with particular attention to the languages of the neo-avant-garde, Italian-American exchanges, and the history of private art galleries.

Cinema and photography, with particular reference to contemporary art photographic archives.
