Expected Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

Basic knowledge of cultural, economic and geopolitical frameworks.

Basic knowledge of the broad patterns of diffusion of economic and ecological crises.

Basic knowledge of the main methods of investigation and theories concerning human settlement, socio-environmental conflicts, and the diffusion of cultural processes.

 

Application of knowledge and understanding:

Basic knowledge of global geopolitical and cultural frameworks.

Use of basic tools of geographical analysis, applied to the study of major cultural areas.

Linking theoretical knowledge to the practical study of territories.

Linking the theoretical framework to the practical study of cultural processes.

 

Judgement skills:

Identification of the main social phenomena through cartographic and iconographic tools.

Application of theories to practical problems and issues in the regional territory.

 

Communication skills:

Describing processes and phenomena.

Giving examples and reasoning about theories and case studies.

 

Learning skills:

  In-depth understanding of key issues through the research of scientific sources and databases.

Course Structure

The course will be divided into thematic blocks of lessons, consisting of lectures, educational games, practical exercises in cultural cartography and student discussions.

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance is not compulsory.

Detailed Course Content

The course will address some of the major challenges confronting cultural geography in the face of the ecological, social and political crises of recent years. Particular attention will be given to the study of the impact of current changes on global culture and cultural heritage. The course will also examine two case studies: the development of decolonial thought and the issue of the Palestinian genocide. During the lectures, practical exercises in participatory cartography and educational role-play will also be organised.
