Expected Learning Outcomes

The course provides the student with

1) Knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding of the major processes of economic and social evolution in modern and contemporary Europe and at the same time of those of rupture and revolutionary transformation on a world scale

2) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding.

Ability to apply the acquired knowledge and in particular the historiographical categories in relation to the different historical contexts and also to the themes and problems of the contemporary world.

3) Making judgements.

Acquisition of an autonomous capacity for critical judgment in the use of analytical tools and categories of historical thought

4) Communication skills.

Acquisition of communication skills in the various areas of confrontation and discussion with both specialists and non-specialists

5) Learning skills

Acquisition of learning skills in an autonomous and conscious way

Course Structure

Lectures and seminars.

Attendance is not compulsory.

Detailed Course Content

The course aims to provide knowledge of the main themes of modern history. The lessons will be divided into modules as follows

A - The modern Age. The main themes from XV to XIX century (4 CFU).

B - Culture and society (3 CFU).

C- Thematic course: the Neapolitan Court and Europe in the Second Half of the Eighteenth Century (2 CFU). 

 

The first part of the lessons will be devoted to exposing the main topics related to modules A and B, such as

- the birth of the modern state

- religious crisis in sixteenth-century

- economy and society

- Wars, revolts and revolution in seventeenth-century

- Enlightenment

The second part of the lectures will be devoted to an in-depth thematic course (Module C) on the Neapolitan Court and Europe in the Second Half of the Eighteenth Century
