War, emigration, and industrialisation in Southern Italian literature of the second half of the twentieth century
Andrea Schembari (Siracusa, 1978), after completing his scientific high school diploma, graduated in Modern Literature and Modern Philology at the University of Catania, where he also earned, in 2011, a PhD in Modern Philology. In October of the same year, he was appointed as a lecturer (lektor) of Italian language at the Katedra Italianistyki of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Szczecin (Poland), where, in 2012, he won a competitive selection for the position of adiunkt (lecturer and researcher) on a fixed-term contract. After obtaining a permanent position, in 2019 he moved to the Instytut Literatury i Nowych Mediów of the University of Szczecin, where he taught — in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes — History of Italy, Comparative Literature, Travel Literature, and Contemporary Italian Literature. Since October 2023, he has been a Researcher at the Department of Humanities, teaching Comparative Literature and Contemporary Italian Literature to students enrolled in the degree programme in "Linguistic and Intercultural Mediation", offered at the Special Teaching Unit of Ragusa. His research interests have focused on the narrative and essayistic writing of Leonardo Sciascia, to whom he has dedicated — as co-editor, with Giuseppe Traina and Flora Monello — the collective volume Leonardo Sciascia e la giovane critica (Salvatore Sciascia Editore, 2009), and the monograph Il lume del sentimento. Leonardo Sciascia e il Settecento (Paolo Loffredo Editore, 2022), as well as several articles and contributions published in journals and edited volumes. He is also a member of the scientific committee of «Todomodo – Rivista internazionale di studi sciasciani». He has further worked on the major Sicilian authors of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, on memoirs and academic culture in eighteenth-century Sicily, and — in an interdisciplinary perspective — on the relationships between texts for music, philosophy, and contemporary literature, having recently co-edited with Stefano Marino the volume Pearl Jam and Philosophy (Bloomsbury Academic, 2022).
