POLICIES FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE EXPLOITATION

Expected Learning Outcomes
The course illustrates the cultural economics analysis
of polices aiming at enhancing heritage, paying particular attention to the
issue of sustainability.
The course explores the organisation of heritage
policies, the reasons that justify their existence and influence their
organisation as well as the models implemented in practice. Particular
attention is given to the role of heritage for sustainable economic, social and
cultural development. National and international documents considering the role
of heritage for society will be analysed. The cultural economics approach will highlight
existing problems, values and possible measures to guarantee heritage sustainability.
The analysis will then consider the management
strategies that can be adopted to guarantee the realisation of heritage potential
for society.
In particular,
students will acquire:
- knowledge and
understanding of post secondary level related to the main concepts of the
cultural economics analysis of heritage and the dilemmas of heritage
policies;
- capacity to
apply the knowledge acquired to professional settings showing adequate
competences to support debates and solve problems in cultural economics;
- capacity to collect and elaborate data to support
autonomous opinions on the issues, including the social, scientific or
ethical issue relate to heritage
- capacity to communicate information, ideas,
problems and solutions to experts and non experts;
- learning skills necessary to continue studies
with a high degree of autonomy.
Course Structure
The course consists of participative lectures. Group works will be used
to help students to apply the theoretical notions to case studies that the
teacher or the same students will choose. Guest lectures will also be organised
so that experts will share their experience in managing a cultural organisation
