Expected Learning Outcomes

According to the Dublin descriptors, students, at the end of the course, will demonstrate:

1) Knowledge and understanding

At the end of the course the student - is able to understand the phenomenon of European urban development in the nineteenth century -

2) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding

he knows how to identify the main phases of the urban, economic and social transformation that took place in this period and is able to read the urban and territorial geography of the continent.

3) Making judgements

ability to collect and interpret data and information deemed useful to determine autonomous judgments

4) Communication skills

Acquisition of the scientific lexicon and ability to communicate clearly and effectively even in front of an audience

5) Learning skills

Ability to identify the fundamentals of the discipline and methodological application

Lectures and seminars, active learning: interactive brianstorming, flipped classroom, working groups.

Detailed Course Content

The course aims to offer the main tools to understand the evolution of space and urban society in the contemporary age, we will study specific phenomena, such as road infrastructure and services, keeping in mind both the urban element, both the social element, and the environmental element, understood as interaction between man and the territory that hosts its activities.understood as an interaction between man and the territory that hosts his activities. The first part of the course will be aimed at addressing the main problematic and interpretative nodes of the history of the city, on a European and Italian scale in the nineteenth centuryIn the second part through the Case studies of the urban transformations of the city of Rome under the fascist regime we will analyze how an ideology can influence urban planning and vice versa how the anasili of the architecture of a given historical context can contribute to understanding and specifying the underlying ideology.
