I graduated in foreign languages and literature (University "G. d'Annunzio" of Chieti-Pescara, 1999), obtained a PhD in Germanic Philology and Linguistics (University of Siena-Arezzo, 2004), and qualified to teach German in secondary schools (S.S.I.S. "R. Laporta", University "G. d'Annunzio" of Chieti-Pescara, 2007). I received an annual research grant, renewed once (2008 and 2009), to study the German language and medical literature between the 8th and 14th centuries. In 2011 I received the Scardigli Prize for my monograph "German medical-pharmaceutical texts of the 11th and 12th centuries" (Alessandria, 2009). From December 31, 2011, to November 29, 2019, I was a fixed-term researcher (2011-2016 A, 2016-2019 B), attached to the Department of Humanities at the University of Catania and the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures (Struttura didattica speciale di lingue e letterature straniere) of Ragusa, where I carry out my teaching and research activities. I began working as an associate professor at the same institution on November 30, 2019. Since March 24, 2023, I have been the Co-ordinator of the BA program in Linguistic and Intercultural Mediation. A medievalist with a solid classical background, my Ancient Greek is currently a bit rusty (but I still recognize the perfect passive subjunctive when I encounter it). I have studied and continue to study primarily manifestations of medical language and literature in medieval Germanic space, Germanic anthroponymy, and the influence of Germanic linguistic and cultural elements on the formation of the identity. of medieval Scotland. Interested in all forms of intercultural communication, I enjoy investigating various aspects of the encounter between Germanic and non-Germanic cultures on the linguistic, onomastic, and literary levels. I also work in diachronic linguistics, historical lexicology, and textual history. In addition to medieval German and Early Scots, which currently represent the main lines of my research, I have also explored Old and Middle English, Old Norse, Middle Dutch, and contemporary rewritings of medieval Germanic texts.
