Serena RAPISARDA

PhD Student
PhD in Sciences for Cultural Heritage and Production - XXXVII cycle
Tutor: Anna Maria GUELI

She was born in Catania, a city that gave her the opportunity to appreciate art. In 2012 she obtained a diploma in Clothing and Fashion Technician and it was during this path that she cultivated a passion for theater.

Thanks to her academic studies, she approaches 3D modeling for the first time, in 2015 she obtains a degree in "Scenography for Theater" and in 2018 in "Scenography for New Media" at the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania.

Between 2018 and 2019, passionate about Virtual Reality, she takes part in the 28th Master's Degree in Computer Graphics made by BigRock school (Treviso).

Dr(XXXVII cycle), in "Sciences for Heritage and Cultural Production" at the University of Catania. Her research project aims to research green and innovative sensors.

She is currently a student in the TFA children BES support course.

"Preventive Conservation: Microclimatic Monitoring with Innovative and Environmentally Friendly Devices"

The study is part of the microclimatic monitoring framework for the Preventive Conservation of Artistic and Cultural Heritage. The proposed project stems from the growing need for sensors within the spaces housing Artistic and Cultural Heritage that can monitor physical parameters that could damage the artworks (temperature, relative humidity, visible light, UV radiation, etc.) and, at the same time, be more environmentally friendly and less disruptive than those currently available on the market.

The research focuses on modeling the plant-soil system and its application in the context of microclimatic monitoring, with the aim of developing sensors that are environmentally friendly. Due to its previously highlighted capabilities, Sansevieria cylindrica, a succulent plant currently readily available on the market, was chosen as the study plant.
