TOPOGRAFIA E ANALISI TECNICA DEI MONUMENTI ANTICHI

The course, through classroom lectures and slide shows, aims to give basic knowledge about the methodologies in use in topographic research, with particular reference to the classical world, in its articulations including the study and documentation of the anthropic organization of the territory, of the urban and rural settlements and infrastructure, even submerged; it also aims at impart the basic skills for the recognition of building materials, the interpretation of construction processes and architectural systems of antiquity (also through the comparison between the archaeological remains and the sources, particularly Vitruvius), as well as for documentation, by means of direct archaeological survey, remote sensing, cartographic, photographic and photogrammetric positioning tools and systems, of monuments and archaeological excavation.

Elements of coastal and submerged ancient topography. Ancient materials and construction techniques. Principles and methods of direct and instrumental archaeological survey.
