Course Structure

The course structure will be based on frontal lectures, but students will be expected to contribute actively to the discussion on the topic under consideration with questions. and answers. The frontal teaching will be supported by power point slides and other tools. The material presented in class (PowerPoint slides, sources, essays) will be available for download at the Studium platform.

The Longobards.

The Franks.

Justinian I: ‘Last Roman’?

Rise and propagation of Islam.

B. (CFU 4)

Feudalism: historiographical essay topics.

Emperors and Bishops: Conflict of Investitures and Catholic Restoration.

God and War: the Crusades.

An Italian history: the Transformation of Medieval communes.

Norman Conquest of Southern Italy.

The Origins and Ealy History of Nation States.
