Expected Learning Outcomes
During the twentieth century, the Cultural Geography has acquired such importance among the different Geographies, to the point that some scholars identify it with geography. In our course we will try to analyze some aspects of material and intangible culture. The questions we will try to answer are the following: what are the cultural phenomena? Where are they located? How to interpret the signs of the action of man (and therefore its culture) in the area? What determines cultural diversity? Multiculturalism and interculturalism, the issue of globalization, migrations, ethnic conflicts, the fascinating subject of " variety " with its regional cultural changes, cultural identities, that
According to the Dublin descriptors, the Course intends to pursue the following aims:
1) Knowledge and Understanding
- the student must know and understand the basic tools of the geographer: maps, graphs, charts, databases available on the web. The student will also acquire the specific language of the discipline;
2) Applying Knowledge and Understanding
- through the interpretation of maps, tables, and graphs the student must be able to discuss and analyse the main social, geopolitical, geoeconomic matters debated in the classroom. Furthermore, the student should know the current lines of research and acquire sectorial methodological expertise;
3) Making Judgments
- the student will develop a greater capacity for analysis and judgment on the main geographical facts discussed in the classroom (with particular reference to the topics of immigration, interculturality, globalization, regional political-economic fractures, cultural routes, tourism) and will be able to autonomously deal with new issues;
4) Communication skills
- the knowledge of new tools and the specific language will enable the student to explain the results of the analyses to other students, to scholars or to a non-expert audience in the field;
5) Learning skills
- the student will be able to develop specific methodological skills and demonstrate full mastery of the logic and uses of IT tools, in order to also develop the ability to carry out scientific research on the topics covered.

Frontal lessons, seminars, projection of documentary films, field lessons and excursions organized by the teacher during the course.

Detailed Course Content
The relationship between nature and culture; environmental determinism and French possibilism; cultural landscapes and regions; spatial diffusion; scale; geographical maps; society and territory environment; energy resources; environmental changes; population and migration; languages, groups of people and ethnicities; religions; globalization; urbanization; international institutions; globalization and terrorism.
Themes of regional geography, analysis of the regional "fractures" of the Mediterranean geopolitical system and understanding of the differences of social, cultural, demographic and economic elements.
Tourism in Sicily organized in routes that connect pleasant places of particular cultural interest: Vie Francigene di Sicilia, Le Strade del Vino, La Strada degli Scrittori.
