His teaching career as a tenured professor of German Literature — first as a Associiate Professor and then as a Full Professor — spanned, without interruption, from November 1998 to October 2022. She taught German Literature in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy (since 2012–13: Department of Ancient and Modern Civilizations). In addition, for several years, she also taught Medieval German Literature and German Language and Linguistics in the bachelor’s degree program. Over the years, she has served as an advisor for approximately a hundred undergraduate and master’s theses in the Language programs. She was also a Visiting Professor (Erasmus) at the Technische Universität Dresden (May–June 2017).

As regards her institutional roles, she served as a member of the Departmental Council of the Department of Ancient and Modern Civilizations at the University of Messina (2011-12 to 2020-21 academic years); as a coordinator of the Master’s Program in “Modern Languages: Literature and Translation” at the same Department (2012-13 to 2014-15);  as a member of the faculty board for the Ph.D. program in “Anglo-German Literature and Languages: Transformations and Relations” (later renamed “Modern Literatures and Philological-Linguistic Studies”) in partnership with the University of Palermo (2002-2015). She was also responsible for the bilateral Erasmus agreements between the Department of Ancient and Modern Civilizations at the University of Messina and the Universities of Bamberg, Dresden, Jena, Kassel, Mainz and Tübingen.

Since 1999 she has been a member of the Italian Association of German Studies; since 2003 of the Goethe Society, Weimar; since 2006 of the Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti, Messina; since 2010 of the Thomas Mann Society, Zurich; since 2010 of the Gottfried Keller Society, Zurich, and since 2010 of the Friends of the Goethe and Schiller Archive, Weimar.
He is a member of the editorial board of “Cultura tedesca” (Suor Orsola Benincasa University, Naples).

She participated as a speaker in over ninety national and, above all, international conferences on German studies. As holder of the Chair of German Literature in the aforementioned department at the University of Messina, she organized several conferences, academic meetings, and seminars, including: “Contemporary German Theater in Italy” (March 2005); “The Correspondence between Hannah Arendt and Hermann Broch” (November 2007); the 8th International Interdisciplinary Conference “Text, Method, Electronic Processing: Writing, Image, Communication” (May 2013); the seminar on “Annette von Droste” (April 2015) and, in collaboration with the Thomas-Mann-Archiv at ETH Zurich, two international conferences: “Thomas Mann as an Essayist” (April 2012) and “World Politics/World Peace: Thomas Mann during the Cold War” (April 2022).

Her field of studies focuses primarily on aspects of the Goethe era, the Biedermeier period, and the early 20th-century Germany. Her specific research, which systematically focuses on the study of primary sources, has been conducted—and continues to be conducted — at major European libraries and archives, such as: the Thüringisches Hauptstaatsarchiv, the Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv, and the Herzogin Anna-Amalia-Bibliothek in Weimar; the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich; the Schiller-Nationalmuseum/Deutsches Literaturarchiv in Marbach; the University Library of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn; the State Archives of Rome; the Biblioteca Marciana in Venice; the Thomas-Mann-Archiv at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule; and the Zentralbibliothek in Zurich.
